Movie Description
An Australian settler girl gets lost in the outback, but she is befriended by a kangaroo who gives her a ride in her pouch as they search for the girl's home. Aiding the pair are musically gifted koalas, platypuses, and kookaburras in this 72-minute film based on Ethel Pedley's 1899 children's book, with animated humans and animals superimposed upon a live background. Children will be touched by the relationship between the child and her marsupial protector, who has lost her own joey. But they may also be frightened by the mythical bunyip (a threatening animal-bird hybrid) or the heroines' violent confrontation with snarling dingoes. Finally, children who are used to happy endings will be mystified that the kangaroo never finds her own baby, and Dot, although returned home, sobs when separated from her beloved kangaroo. I use to love this when I was a kid, and I wanted to share it with my kids. With no surprise, they loved it too!

I was looking at childhood nostalgia on Amazon when I came across this DVD. I am glad the review includes a warning about the bunyip. I am not joking when I say this movie TERRIFIED me as a kid. I remember watching it once on tv, and I have honestly had nightmares for years. It's not supposed to be a scary movie! Why it scared me so much I can't say, but it did. It even baffled my parents. But the bunyip still pops up in my nightmares to this day (I'm 27!) Many people love it, but I just caution that young children should be with a parent when they first watch it.

I watched this as a kid in the 80's and at the time I was confused by some parts and mostly scared. Growing up I have wondered if I will ever see this film ever again and WOW here it is on DVD. I think I will buy it but it may not be for every child out there as this darn flic still freaks me out and I am now 30 years old.

Dot and the the Kangaroo is such a wonderful story and this film is a beautifully produced piece of animation. Our daughter enjoyed watching it over and over when she was little. I'm so excited to find that I can buy a new copy for her to enjoy with her own family!

This version by Digiview Entertainment is VERY POOR QUALITY!!! very yellow glow around the characters and the sound is muffled. I love the Dot and the Kangaroo. I was so happy that I found the movie but this was a disappointment. I watched the movie on YouTube and that was better quality than this version from Digiview Entertainment. I gave 2 star because I like DOT but the DVD is poor quality!
